AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A Richmond County Sheriff's Office deputy who was named "Deputy of the Year" last week has been fired.

Austin Shepherd was terminated Tuesday after an internal investigation last week regarding his conduct, according to the sheriff's office.

The sheriff's office said that prior to this administration, Shepherd engaged in "activities that may be considered a violation of his oath of office."

The case is still under investigation.
