Sheriff: 'Filled with anger' after man shot in the street

GAFFNEY, SC (FOX Carolina) -

A Gaffney man is in jail after deputies said he shot another man after an argument, which led to the shooting.

Marlo Parker, 19, is charged with attempted murder for his involvement in a shooting.

Investigators arrived to Sixth Street in Cherokee County Friday, Dec. 27, just before 3:30 p.m. They found Christopher Wood, of Gaffney, shot in the leg. Officials said he was taken to Spartanburg Regional Hospital, and is expected to make a full recovery.

Witnesses on scene told deputies what they saw, which caused a search for Parker. He was arrested hours later and booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center. Investigators said he was released on a $40,000 surety bond Saturday night.

Investigators believe that more than one handgun was fired during the fight, and they said more charges could be filed.

"It was a miracle that no one else was injured during the shooting. Incidents like this fill you with anger because these clowns simply have no regard for the safety of the public when they start firing off rounds in the middle of the street. Many innocent people could have been easily killed or injured as a result of their actions," said Sheriff Steve Mueller in a statement Sunday.

Mueller said that the sheriff's office will "aggressively pursue these individuals and encourage our Solicitor's Office to call these cases for trail quickly to get these individuals off our streets and sent to the South Carolina Department of Correction, where they belong."

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-888-CRIME-SC or the Cherokee County Sheriff's Office and speak with Investigator Nathan Walker, at 864-489-4722.
