WILMINGTON, NC - (WECT) - A house fire at the intersection of North Kerr and Martin Luther King Jr. Parkway has been ruled accidental.
Investigators say the damage estimates are $30,000.
According to a statement released from the Wilmington Fire Department, "the smoke alarm alerted the occupant and probably
saved his life."
New Hanover County Communications says the call came in around 6:11 a.m. on Sunday. The caller said both smoke and flames were coming out of the home.
Fire officials say one person was inside when the fire broke out, but the man was able to get outside on his own.
When they arrived on the scene, crews say flames were going towards the home next door. Firefighters went inside that home, and evacuated those neighbors. Part of their siding appears to be damaged because of the blaze.
The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
