Pedestrians struck by vehicle downtown sustained serious injuries

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

Police say two pedestrians suffered serious injuries in a downtown Savannah wreck Saturday evening.

Accident investigators of SCMPD said Albert Wayne Pittman and Debra Elaine Haddock, both of Greenville, NC, were crossing MLK at the Liberty Street/Louisville Rd. intersection against the traffic light. They were struck by a Chevrolet Impala at 6:41 p.m. driven by a 35-year-old Savannah man, said SCMPD spokesperson Julian Miller.

Pittman, 61, and Haddock, 57, were transported to Memorial University Medical Center. They sustained serious injuries. Lt. Greg Ernst said on Saturday that one sustained serious head injuries. Initial reports indicated the injuries suffered were believed to be non-life threatening.

MAIT continues to investigate.
