GA DOT opening closed roads for holiday traffic

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - The Georgia Department of Transportation is opening up closed roads for holidays.

Officials said they're expecting more traffic than usual in the upcoming week and want to play it safe. Construction lanes closed on all interstates and major state roads in East Central Georgia will open back up. The lift began December 20th at 5P.M. and will continue through the second of January until 5 A.M. Officials are urging anyone out to check travel information before leaving home, by visiting  or calling 511.

Georgia 511 provides statewide traffic conditions, route-specific information and estimated travel times. 511 callers can access transit providers, major airports, rideshare organizations, Georgia tourism information and 511 systems in neighboring states.
