AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Richmond County Coroner Grover Tuten is in federal custody, according to an agent with the Augusta FBI office.
Tuten was taken into custody by FBI agents Thursday on a charge of theft by taking, Agent Jim Harrison with the Augusta FBI said. The arrest was the result of a several months-long investigation.
The FBI, the Richmond County Sheriff's Office, the local District Attorney's office and the U.S. District Attorney's Office investigated the case.
Details about the investigation are not being released, but Harrison said it is ongoing.
The Richmond Coroner's Office and its employees are temporarily under the direction of the Richmond County Sheriff's Office.
