A rash of robberies at Family Dollars across Augusta haS shoppers worried about their safety.

"I was actually here when they got robbed because I couldn't get in. But it's because there's no security here," shopper Althea Feaster told WFXG.

In one week, two Family Dollars were crime scenes. In one case, police say Bobby Earl Haynes robbed the store on Deans Bridge Road. In a separate incident, two men broke into the store on Central Avenue and stole sixty packs of cigarettes and two cases of laundry detergent. Two men robbed the same location back in October.

WFXG reached out to Family Dollar to see why they were constant targets and what they were doing to keep their employees and customers safe.

They released the following statement to WFXG.

"We take the safety of our customers and Team Members very seriously.  To that end we are working with local authorities and reviewing our security procedures to ensure our stores continue to be a safe place to shop and work this holiday season."

Feaster, who frequents the family dollar on Central Ave. said she doesn't believe that employees are safe.

"I don't think the employees here are safe. I pretty much think that they shouldn't stay open that late when it comes dark, or they need to have a lot of security here," Feaster stated.

She said if they are going to remain open, they need to take certain measures to ensure that their customers and employees aren't at risk.

"They need to go ahead and have their own security. That's what they need to do," Feaster stated.

The Richmond County Sheriff's Office declined to comment on the subject, but they did say they are still looking for the two individuals who burglarized the Family Dollar on Sunday.
