AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Two family members of the Columbia County Sheriff have been formally charged with trafficking marijuana.
Kenneth Whittle, 25, and Walter Taylor Hensley, 24, were each indicted Tuesday on one count of the charge. James Derek Hurt, 26, who is not related to the sheriff, was also indicted.
Whittle and Hensley are the nephews of Columbia County Sheriff Clay Whittle, according to the Columbia County Sheriff's Office.
The three men were arrested Sept. 20 during a traffic stop on I-20, according to Richmond County deputies. Members of the drug task force found 20 pounds of marijuana inside their truck.
