Sheriff's office investigating Columbia Co. Tax Commissioner

Columbia County investigators are looking into allegations made about the county's tax commissioner, according to Capt. Steve Morris with the sheriff's office. 

Allegations were made against Tax Commissioner Kay Allen, Morris said, but the sheriff's office will not release information about who made the allegations.

    Aiken Public Safety Officers responded to a working fire at 611 Hampton Ave at 7:56 PM. As they arrived, crews observed flames coming from the front room of the home. The fire extended into the attic of the residence. Crew members began extinguishing the fire immediately. Both residents were in the home when the fire started and were safely evacuated prior to Public Safety’s arrival.
