Athens Police arrested a man they said sexually abused a teenage girl.

Marcos Cortez was arrested Wednesday night and charged on one count of second-degree sexual abuse. He is accused of subjecting a 13-year-old girl to sexual contact.

Police received a call from the victim's mother wishing to speak about her daughter. The officer assigned to the case spoke to the girl, who said Cortez touched her inappropriately.

Cortez and the victim are not related, however they were acquainted. He was booked at the police department and is out on $1,000 bond.
