2 arrested after 1-year-old found with bite marks in Dale Co.

Dale County authorities say they were alerted to a man stealing from the Ozark Walmart, but it quickly turned into something much more than theft.

Officials with the Dale County Sheriff's Office say 27-year-old Jameson English jumped into a car after stealing a cell phone from Walmart Friday, and a high-speed chase ensued.

English reportedly jumped from the car and fled on foot, but authorities were able to stop the car and driver, 23-year-old Sonya Roy.

During the investigation, the deputy who stopped the vehicle noticed a 1-year-old in the back seat. The boy had bruising on his body along with several bite marks. The child was taken to the hospital for further treatment.

English was found and arrested Saturday. He is charged with torture/willful abuse of a child, chemical endangerment of a child, second degree theft of property and third degree burglary.

Roy was arrested and charged with chemical endangerment, third degree burglary and second degree theft of property.

English is being held on $65,000 bond. Roy was released on $7,500 bond.

Sheriff Olsen says English admitted to biting the baby and said he couldn't get the child to stop crying.

Officials say this isn't the first time English has had a run in with law enforcement.

Sheriff Wally Olsen says this case not only helped the baby boy, but investigators have connected English and Roy to multiple thefts throughout Dale and Henry counties.

The 1-year-old is currently in Alabama Department of Human Resources care.
