Knife-wielding man arrested after standoff with deputies, SWAT team

WARRENVILLE, SC (WFXG) -

The Aiken County Sheriff's Office said they had a standoff with a man armed with several knives Tuesday afternoon in Warrenville.

Martin Chavez, 31, was threatening to harm deputies and himself, according tot he sheriff's office.

Deputies responded to the house on Barrett Street around 3:44 p.m. after getting a call about a domestic disturbance and suicidal threats.

A portion of Barrett Street was closed while the SWAT team and deputies negotiated with Chavez.

EMS was also called to the scene and deputies say the Langley Fire department was on standby, but after successful negotiations, Chavez was taken into custody around 7:15 p.m.

Deputies said Chavez was taken to Aiken Regional for treatment. He is charged with first-degree assault and battery and disorderly conduct.
