North Augusta Zaxby's employee shot during armed robbery

NORTH AUGUSTA, SC (WFXG) -

A pair of armed robbers is on the loose after officers say they shot an employee at the North Augusta Zaxby's while trying to rob the store. 

The shooting and attempted robbery happened just before 11 p.m. Saturday at the Zaxby's at 1671 Knox Ave., according to an incident report form the North Augusta Department of Public Safety.

Surveillance video shows a man entering the store with an employee at gunpoint, according to the report. Seconds later, a second man entered the store carrying a rifle.

The employee pushed the man holding him at gunpoint and ran out of the restaurant, according to the report. The man chased the employee, shot him in the leg and stole his cell phone.

The victim told officers that the two men got away in a small yellow car.

The man that held the employee at gunpoint was wearing a brown or green jacket, blue jeans and white tennis shoes, according to the report. The man with the rifle was wearing a black hoodie with the number 37 on the back, blue jeans, tennis shoes, and gloves.
