AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

A 21-year-old man is facing charges in connection with the theft of several truck from gas stations on Washington Road.

Markeith Golphin is accused of stealing a truck from the Circle K at 2916 Washington Road and two trucks from the Circle K at 2999 Washington Road over the past week.

Deputies said Golphin also attempted to steal a truck Friday from the parking lot of Roadrunner Café at 2821 Washington Road.

Richmond County investigators were monitoring the area near both Circle K gas stations Friday when they saw a man, later identified as Golphin, walking through the parking lots of the gas stations while talking on his cell phone and looking into cars parked at pumps.

When investigators tried to interview Golphin at Bertram Road and Washington Road, he fled toward Center West Villas, according to the sheriff's office. Deputies arrested him at the apartment complex.

Golphin, who is from Sylvania but is homeless, had an active parole violation warrant for his arrest, according to the sheriff's office.

He is being charged with three counts of theft by taking (motor vehicle) and one count of criminal attempt (theft by taking of a motor vehicle).
