Tornado victims thankful for family after home is destroyed

STONE COUNTY, MS (WLOX) -

The simple back and forth on the front porch swing is something Tony and Pat Jones say they will never take for granted.

The 75 and 71-year-old have 6 children, 17 grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.

As they swing, they admire their young great grandchildren playing in the front yard.

"The important thing is your family and them being okay," said Pat Jones.

Pat said she knows that fact now, after a wake up call came in the form of a tornado Christmas Day last year.

"Just as soon as you saw it, you know it was destroyed," said Tony Jones.

"It hurt, it hurt a great deal," said Tony in tears.

The Joneses took refuge in their bathroom.

Everyone in their family was spared, but their home and both of their son's homes were destroyed.

"You can see on the trees where the appliances hit the trees," said Pat Jones.

"We lost I think 7 head, and some of them went through the house. They had broke legs, some of them just laid down and died."

Churches from across the country helped the Jones family rebuild the houses. For the last two months this couple, married 54 years, has once again had a place to call home.

"I believe it's humbled me some," said Pat Jones.

"Because you don't ever know what day's going to be your last one."

The structure takes second in this family's heart.

"It doesn't matter, it's just that every body's okay and we're all together," said Pat Jones.

"We can have another Christmas, you know."

You can guarantee this holiday season the Jones family is especially thankful for the love that surrounds them, under the roof that protects them. They will never forget the horror that threatened that happiness.
