South Georgia man arrested for high speed chase in stolen ambulance

BERRIEN COUNTY, GA -

A young South Georgia man is in custody after allegedly stealing an ambulance and leading police on a high speed chase that ended in a crash last Saturday, Nov 23.

18 year-old Joseph Michael Allen is facing a total of 12 charges including Fleeing or Attempting to Elude a Police Officer for a Felony Offense, Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol, and Drinking Under the Age of 21.  

The suspect was treated for injuries he sustained in the crash. He had been at large since he checked out of Tallahassee Memorial Hospital last weekend.

The ambulance was stolen from a private transport service in Lakeland, Ga.

Allen was taken into custody by the Berrien County Sheriff's Department on Nov. 29, and is currently being held at the Berrien County jail on a $4,060 bond, according to the Berrien County Sheriff's report.
