AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A Richmond County deputy who was injured in a crash Wednesday while responding to a bank robbery is out of the hospital, according to officials at Georgia Regents Medical Center.
Deputy Tommy King was released Wednesday afternoon. Hospital officials didn't have information about the conditions of the two other people injured in the wreck.
Deputies are still looking for the man who robbed the SunTrust Bank on Peach Orchard Road at about 2:28 p.m., Sgt. Shane McDaniel said. The man, armed with a semi-automatic weapon, approached the counter, demanded money and got away with an undisclosed amount.
Deputies said the man fled the bank on foot north of Peach Orchard Road.
King, who was responding to the armed robbery, was involved in a crash on the way to the scene. It happened at the intersection of Lumpkin Road and Shelby Drive when a Mitsubishi Mirage pulled out into the path of King, McDaniel said. The deputy, as well as two occupants of the Mitsubishi, were taken to Georgia Regents Medical Center for treatment.
Georgia State Patrol is investigating the crash.
