BIRMINGHAM, AL (WBRC) -

Some people are now using jewelry to bling out their eye and doctors are warning against the procedure.

It's something you'll have to travel elsewhere to get done because the eye doctors we spoke to in Birmingham say they would never do it.

Optometrist Dr. Michael Hooks says a doctor surgically places a piece of platinum inside your eye.

"They use a laser and with the laser they make an incision on the conjunctiva, which is the clear tissue over the white of your eye," he said.

Tune in at 10 to hear why Hooks, the American Academy of Opthalmology, and others are urging consumers to steer clear of this procedure.
