GDOT to suspend lane closures for Thanksgiving holiday

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The Georgia Department of Transportation is suspending all construction-related lane closures on Interstates and major state routes to help ease Thanksgiving travel traffic.

From 5 a.m. Wednesday through 10 p.m. Sunday, construction work will be suspended, GDOT officials said, but crews may still be working in some areas. Officials also remind motorists that heavy equipment may remain staged near highway and that some long-term lane closures may remain in place for safety reasons.

GDOT officials ask that drivers obey the posted speed limits, leave early to get a head start on their trip and travel at non-peak times if possible.

For real-time, statewide traffic information on wrecks, road work and traffic and weather conditions, motorists can dial 511 on their phones or visit 511ga.org.
