AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Redevelopment of a South Augusta shopping center is underway.
Chick-fil-A and Krispy Kreme both plan to open stores at Windsor Square at Peach Orchard and Windsor Spring roads, the city of Augusta and Hull Storey Gibson Companies, the owner of Windsor square, announced Tuesday.
"It's been a long time coming," said Mayor Deke Copenhaver, "and it's a great time for South Augusta and Augusta as a whole."
Redevelopment plans include improved landscaping, increased pedestrian-level lighting and the demolition of vacant shop space to the left of the post office and Dollar General.
The post office, Dollar General and Goodwill will remain on the property, and SRP Credit Union will relocate to the center across the street anchored by Lowe's.
Chick-fil-A is set to open its new restaurant at Windsor Square in spring 2014, city officials said. It will be located next to McDonald's. Krispy Kreme will be located next to Taco Bell.
Hull Storey Gibson Companies expects an additional announcement about another popular national food chain in the near future.
