Natchitoches Festival of Lights gets underway

NATCHITOCHES, LA (KPLC) -

The 87th Annual Festival of Lights is underway in Natchitoches.

Over half of a million lights came on as Louisiana's oldest city flipped the switch in Natchitoches' historic district.

This weekend began 45 nights of lights for the Christmas holiday running through Jan. 4. Each weekend will include events for the family, live music and food vendors.

"I'm 17 years old and I've been coming to the festival my entire life. My favorite part was turning on the Christmas lights ... It was so much fun. Growing up I have loved the Christmas lights and to be the one to flip the switch - it was amazing," said Gabrielle Ingram, Miss Merry Christmas, Natchitoches Festival of Lights.

This weekend is also the official kickoff of the tri-centennial of Natchitoches.
