AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - Georgia's unemployment rate dropped to 8.1 percent in October, according to the Georgia Department of Labor.
That's down from 8.3 percent in September and 8.8 percent in October 2012, officials said.
State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler said in a statement he is encouraged by the improvement in the labor market.
"We've seen Georgia gain almost 30,000 jobs over the last two months," Butler said. "And, the good thing about the job creation is that it's pretty much through all sectors."
The number of jobs in Georgia rose to 4,078,700 in October, which is the largest number since November 2008, officials said. Compared to September, the number of jobs increased 0.6 percent in October.
The trade and transportation sectors gained the most jobs, officials said, with education and health services following.
