The Georgia Army National Guard will host a welcome home ceremony Saturday for the 878th Engineer Battalion's 170 guardsmen that are returning home.
The soldiers are returning from a year-long deployment to Afghanistan in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.
During their time in the field, these soldiers, from communities all across Georgia, used their engineering skills to conduct route clearance operations in Southern Afghanistan designed to locate and disarm potential explosive devices.
The ceremony will start at 11:45 p.m. at The Georgia Army National Guard Armory at 88 Milledge Rd. in Augusta.
Augusta Mayor Deke Copenhaver, Mayor Pro-Tem Alvin Mason, representatives of the Georgia National Guard command team, representatives of state and local government and the families of the soliders of the 878th will attend.
