A Henrico woman is standing by her son, even though he's the one accused of killing his own father.
21-year-old Michael Luedecke is charged with murder and use of a firearm. He remains in jail Monday. Luedecke is accused of shooting and killing his father, Jeffrey Luedecke, Sunday night.
Before seeing her son in court, his mother prayed in the hallway, surrounded by family members, but even as this woman is dealing with the murder of husband she said this about her son: "My son is innocent," she said outside the courthouse.
Very few details are available right now. The court documents are sealed.
Police were called to the home in the 8800 block of Midway Road. Neighbors say this is where Michael Luedecke grew up and Jeffrey was a handyman - and this is where officers found Jeffrey Luedecke, dead from a gunshot wound. Detectives say they believe the suspect shot his father after an argument escalated. Police have not said who owned the gun or who called 911.
Chris Smith has worked as a landscaper and gardener on Midway Road for almost two decades. He says the entire situation is just heart breaking.
"Neighbors need to watch out for each other, but you can never tell what goes on in somebody's house, that's usually behind closed doors," he said.
Luedecke's next court date is November 25. He will be tried at the Henrico Juvenile and Domestic courthouse.
