LOUISVILLE, KY (WAVE) – The plan of a Louisville man to sell a stolen iPhone back to its owner backfired when the owner brought some backup along.

According to an arrest report, Shannon Key, 42, was in possession of an iPhone 5 had been stolen earlier in the day. The owner of the phone said Key called her and said he would return the phone if she paid him $30. The woman then arranged a meeting with Key.

At the meeting site on W. Broadway, Key told the woman it was going to cost her $100 to get the phone back. What Key didn't know is that a Metro police officer was also at the meeting site.

When the officer told Key to show his hands, Key refused and kept his left hand inside his pocket. After Key continued to resist the officer, he was taken to the ground and placed into custody.

Key was booked into Louisville Metro Corrections November 17 on charges of receiving stolen property and resisting arrest. The stolen iPhone was found inside Key's jacket pocket.
