Boiling Springs High marching band scores national ranking

SPARTANBURG, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Students from an Upstate high school were on a national stage Friday as they competed to take home a major marching band title.

The Boiling Springs Marching Band said they made it to the semifinals of the Bands of America Grand National Championships in Indianapolis, the farthest they've ever made it in the competition.

Parents and friends spent hours Sunday decking out the school and the town, for the students to get a big surprise on their way home.

"We just really want to bring them home in as big (a) flashy way as we can because they deserve every minute of it right now," said Gary Rohoden, associate director of the band.  

The students arrived home Sunday night with a full police escort and a crowd of about a hundred with banners and signs. Some local businesses also congratulated the students on their marquees.

The competition season is now complete for the band, but they can still be seen performing in the Spartanburg holiday parades.
