Scattered storms develop Saturday evening

Posted: Updated:
KANSAS CITY, MO (KCTV) -

Scattered thunderstorms are developing Saturday evening as a strong storm system rolls in from the west.

A severe thunderstorm watch is in effect until midnight for the north side of the metro (from Topeka to Kirksville) in mainly northern Missouri and northeast Kansas.

Strong storms are developing northwest of Kansas City and are moving northeast at 40 miles per hour.

The bulk of the severe storms should stay north of downtown.

Most of the activity should move out of the KCTV5 viewing area by 11 p.m. They should exit the Kansas City area between 8 p.m. and 9 p.m.

Some storms could be strong to severe, with damaging winds being the main threat, but large hail and/or an isolated tornado can't be ruled out.

Stay tuned to KCTV5 and KCTV5.com throughout the evening for updates and possible warnings.

If you take pictures of storm damage, KCTV5 would love to see them. Either upload your photos at pix.kctv5.com  or email them into yourphotos@kctv5.com.
