LOCKHART, SC (FOX Carolina) -

Union County deputies said they are investigating a shooting after a woman lost her finger and a man was injured after they were both shot with a shotgun Wednesday night.

Deputies said they were called to Mill Street in Lockhart about 11 p.m. after people reported hearing gunshots.

Deputies said they arrived to find a girl sitting in front of town hall with fabric wrapped around her right hand and blood on her face. When they spoke to her, the 19-year-old told deputies her finger was "blown off" when she tried to stop another man from killing himself, according to the deputy's report.

Deputies said the teen had hundreds of small burns on her face. They said they also found the 18-year-old man lying in the road with a large gunshot wound to his shoulder.

According to the report, the teen was yelling and cussing saying he shot himself and wanted to die.

There were several other witnesses around who told deputies that the two victims had been arguing while they were in a car headed down Mill Street when the man pointed the shotgun at himself, but the girl tried to pull the muzzle away, according to the report.

Deputies said that's when the gun went off, hitting her hand. They also said the man shot himself in the shoulder as others tried to wrestle the gun out of his hands.

Both victims were taken to the hospital for treatment.
