Nashville pauses to remember, thanks veterans' sacrifice

Posted: Updated:

Millions of Americans paused Monday to honor our nation's veterans, and that included a big crowd who gathered for Nashville's annual Veterans Day Parade.

The salute to service filled the streets of Nashville, with pride, respect and gratitude the overwhelming themes of the day.

For many in attendance, this day was personal.

Ron Courtney, a Navy veteran who served during the Vietnam War, says we should never forget.

"Every one of those personnel, man or woman, thank you very much for your service. I appreciate it, and I'm glad to be a brother of yours and appreciate your being my brothers and sisters," he said.

The Grand Ole Opry's Connie Smith and retired Lt. Col. Bill Burleigh served as co-grand marshals, and Burleigh was honored for his work with the organization Operation Stand Down, which works to help homeless veterans.
