Crime Scene in Troy
Officials say a father fatally shot one of his sons and injured another in Troy over the weekend.
The shootings happened around 8:00 a.m. Saturday on County Road 1143 just off Highway 29 South near Troy.
When officers and medics arrived, they found 18-year-old Sammy Dandrea Jackson fatally wounded. Another male victim, identified only as a 16-year-old, was found suffering gunshot wounds to the leg and lower abdomen. His injuries are now considered non-life-threatening.
Both victims were shot by their father, 44-year-old Sammy D. Jackson, according to officials. The father was found near the home and taken into custody. He is being charged with one count of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Pike County Sheriff Russell Thomas said Jackson's son, who was a member of the Goshen High School football team, was fatally shot a short time after returning from Friday night's playoff game.
Goshen High School leaders paid tribute to Jackson Tuesday during an assembly. The school lowered the flag to half-staff.
WSFA 12 News obtained three photos of Jackson with his teammates at Goshen. They are courtesy of Tonya Gibson.
The mother and a 14-year-old daughter were also in the home at the time of the shooting but were not harmed, authorities said.
Investigators say there is a history of domestic abuse issues within the family.
