Pistols and heroin found in convicted felon's apt feet from college campus

WILMINGTON, NC (WECT) – Three guns along with heroin and marijuana were found in a convicted felon's apartment just feet away from the campus of the University of North Carolina Wilmington.

New Hanover County Sheriff Ed McMahon told WECT in a live interview they had arrested Kenneth Jermain Greene for possession of a firearm by a convicted felon, and several drug charges. Greene lives in the Seahawk Square Apartments just outside of the UNCW campus.

The apartment complex is sandwiched between UNCW and the Isaac Bear Early College High School. You may know it as the apartment complex located behind the Cook-Out drive thru on South College Road.

Sheriff McMahon says he believes Greene may be a gang member, but that has not been verified yet.

Greene was charged with the following:

  • Possession of firearm by felon x3
  • Possession of marijuana >1/2-1 1/2oz
  • Manufacture SCH 1 Control Substance
  • PWIMSD SCH 1 CS
  • PWIMSD Marijuana
  • M/S/D/P CS within 100 Feet of School
  • Possession of drug paraphernalia
  • Felony Maintain Vehicle/Dwelling Controlled Substance
  • Failure to secure firearm to protect minor

Greene is currently on probation for PWIMSD Schedule II and DWI.
