Congressman Barrow collecting canned goods, holiday cards for troops

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

U.S. Congressman John Barrow is preparing for the holidays by accepting canned goods at his offices in Georgia's 12th District.

Barrow will deliver the canned foods to local charities for Thanksgiving.

"During the holidays, it's important for us to remember those who face hardships all year long, especially during the holidays," Barrow said. "One way we can show our thanks for all that we have is to help those who are in need. So I encourage folks to participate in our canned food drive and to donate all they can at one of our district offices."

Barrow will also be accepting holiday cards for men and women in military hospitals. Last year, Barrow delivered hundreds of holiday cards from the 12th District to injured members of the military at the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda.

"For those who have given so much for their country, spending the holidays away from their family is probably not what they'd choose," Barrow said. "One of the highlights of my year is to deliver these holiday cards to them and to visit with them during the holidays. I hope folks throughout the 12th District will join me in sending holiday greetings to these service members, and thanking them for their service."

Canned goods and holiday cards can be delivered to one of Barrow's district offices in Augusta, Statesboro, Dublin, Douglas, or Vidalia. Find Barrow's office locations here.

Holiday cards placed in envelopes should not be sealed closed.
