When do frost advisories and freeze warnings end?

Posted: Updated:
ATLANTA (CBS ATLANTA) -

Frost advisories and freeze warnings are issued when temperatures reach a certain threshold, but they're not issued throughout the entire winter.  If that were the case, we'd have an advisory a night by December.

These advisories are issued more for the agriculture community to give notice when non-winter vegetation may be at risk, such as now when we're transitioning from the warm to cold season.  Some of you may still have plants out from the summer that won't survive the winter, thus the frost advisories and freeze warnings.

The National Weather Service in Peachtree City -- which issues all of your warnings and advisories in Atlanta -- say they stop issuing frost advisories and freeze warnings on November 20.  By this time, we're well into the cold season and advisories are no longer necessary.

They also stop issuing the advisories once temperatures drop to 28 degrees across most of Metro Atlanta.
