CNT: Pot, weapons found in search of Elev8ed

SAVANNAH, GA (WTOC) -

The Chatham-Savannah Counter Narcotics Team has arrested the owner of a Savannah skate shop after allegedly finding several pounds of high-grade marijuana at the shop.

Drug agents say they also seized guns and ballistic vests in their investigation.

The Wednesday arrest of 29-year-old Mark Redman, who owns Elev8ed, shocked neighbors and customers of Elev8ed, located on Broughton Street near Montgomery Street.

Naimah Faison found a closed sign on Elev8ed's door Thursday evening when she came to buy a t-shirt. The sign said the shop would re-open Friday, but Redman is being held without bond at the Chatham County jail

"I just realized tonight why this store is called 'Elev8ed,'" Faison said. "People get high."

CNT spokesman Gene Harley said tips to undercover drug agents led investigators to Elev8ed, located right across the street from the Chatham County Courthouse.

Christy Yamagucci works at a jewelry store next door to the skate shop, one that specializes in custom gold teeth. She working Wednesday when CNT raided Elev8ed.

"They had battering rams," Yammagucci said. "We could hear them banging on the wall over there."

On it's website, Elev8ed calls itself Savannah's "one-stop shop for skateboarding, music, art, fashion and community."

Yamagucci says the owners liked to throw big parties, wth DJ's, bands and lots of college students.

"They're slinging more than skateboards," she said.

Here's what CNT agents say skate shop owner Mark Redman was slinging -- more than 13 pounds of high-grade marijuana investigators say was seized from Redman's home in Berwick and from a home in the 200 block of West 37th Street.

Will Haga lives in an apartment above the skate shop. He says he never would've suspected the raid.

"They seem like really good guys," he said. "I hope the store re-opens."

Harley said CNT agents had been staking out Elev8ed for some time and are working with United States Postal Service inspectors to take their investigation beyond Georgia's borders.

Harley said agents seized 8 handguns, four high-powered rifles, ballistic vests, cash and an SUV along with marijuana.

He said more arrests are coming.

Redman has been charged with trafficking marijuana, possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony.

His preliminary hearing is scheduled for Nov. 19 at 2 p.m. in Chatham County Recorder's Court.
