A Martinez man is facing charges after Richmond County deputies say he broke into CVS with a sledgehammer and then led police on a chase.
Deputies responded to the CVS at 3231 Wrightsboro Rd. just before midnight Monday after two people reported seeing some break into the store with a sledgehammer, according to an incident report.
Dispatch released a description of a truck seen leaving CVS, according to the report. Deputies saw a truck matching the description at Wrightsboro Road and Damascus Road. They chased the truck onto Walton Way, where the truck crashed into trees.
The driver, identified as 26-year-old Bryant Tredwell Williams, told deputies he broke into CVS to steal Klonopin pills but was blocked by a metal security door inside the pharmacy, according to the report.
Deputies found a sledgehammer in Williams' truck, as well as black gloves, a black shirt and a black ski mask, according to the report. Deputies also found a black flashlight at CVS.
Williams is charged with burglary in the second degree, reckless driving and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer. He is being held at the Richmond County Jail.
