SURFSIDE BEACH, SC (WMBF) – A traffic accident with injuries near Highway 17 and Dick Pond Road in Surfside Beach has been cleared after causing delays in both directions Wednesday afternoon.

A WMBF News photographer at the scene confirmed that the accident was cleared and all lanes of Highway 544 were reopened at about 5 p.m.

According to a posting by the South Carolina Highway Patrol, the accident happened just before 4 p.m. on Highway 544 at Sayebrook Parkway, just off Highway 17.

Highway Patrol officials say three people were transported to Grand Strand Regional Medical Center after a Chevy Tahoe ran a red light on Hwy. 544 and was struck by a Nissan.

After being hit, the Tahoe overturned. The driver of the Tahoe was charged with disregarding traffic signal.
