Cordele fugitive finally caught

CORDELE, GA (WALB) -

The manhunt for the ever elusive Malcom Thomas ended Thursday. Authorities captured him peacefully in Cordele.

Thomas is charged with three counts of Felony Aggravated Assault, Felony Firearm Possession by Convicted Felon, Felony Firearm/Knife Possession during Crime/Attempt Crime, two counts of Felony Terroristic Threats, Misdemeanor Battery and a Parole Warrant.

A police officer spotted Malcom Thomas at 13th Street in Cordele Tuesday morning and chased him up to 15th Street.  Officers searched a heavily wooded area near the Norbord Plant.

"It's very thick brush, its very hard to get through," said Cordele Chief of Police William Hooper. "He could be laying down out there and we could literally walk over the top of him."

Police  surrounded the perimeter, and brought in a chopper and a canine unit searching  for him. They also fear that due to his previous acts, he could pose danger to the public.

"Anytime your looking for anybody that has a warrant out for them like this and all, they're panicky they don't think straight at times," Hooper said.

Thomas, 23, of Cordele is wanted on two warrants after authorities say he ran away from a traffic stop in Crisp County, and fired a gun at a woman.

Officials from the Cordele Police Department, Sheriff's Office, Dooly and GBI all have assisted in the manhunt.
