Left turns are no longer allowed during afternoon hours at a busy Evans intersection, Columbia County officials said.
Two new signs on Washington Road at Knob Hill Farm Road alert drivers that they're not allowed to make left turns between 4 and 6 p.m. on weekdays.
County officials put the signs up after seeing a number of crashes at the intersection during peak afternoon hours, according to Columbia County EMA. The Georgia Department of Transportation approved the change.
A more permanent fix is coming to the intersection in the near future when Washington Road is widened, officials said. The no left turn signs will then be removed.
Officials say the sheriff's office will allow a grace period for motorists to get used to the change, but then they'll start writing tickets for anyone who violates the new rule.
