KURE BEACH, NC (WECT) - It's not in Kansas anymore.

Wednesday afternoon Keith Taylor found a red balloon on the sand at Kure Beach. A closer look showed the balloon had been tagged with a message from an Elementary School in Wichita, KS some 1,400 miles away.

"I couldn't believe it flew that far," Taylor told the Wichita Eagle.

The balloon was released from Kelly Elementary school on Monday as part of a project to mark Red Ribbon Week which is a campaign to promote alcohol, tobacco and drug prevention and awareness.

Taylor said he plans to send the school some shells to help the students learn about the North Carolina coastline.
