Vigil held to remember Desean Peterson - WFXG FOX 54 - News Now

Over 100 gather to remember murdered Covington teen

COVINGTON, KENTUCKY (FOX19) -

Desean Peterson was shot and killed near 17th and Garrard Streets in Covington, the same place where more than 100 people gathered Wednesday night to remember the 19-year old with an ambitious future.

"Everybody loved Sean.  Sean as a loveable guy.  He would help anybody," said Birgitte Peterson, Desean's mother.

He was a standout athlete at Holmes High School.  His teammates remember him as a leader on the field willing to do anything for anyone.

"Just an all-around good person, somebody who is just so full of life.  If you needed something, he would make sure he got that for you.  He would help you get that," said Orlando Dixon, a teammate of Peterson's.

"He was a great team leader.  He led us for 4 years from a freshman.  He just led the team," said another teammate, Jeremy Couch.

That's why, for Peterson's mother, she can't understand why he was killed.

"He did everything.  He did for his team.  He did for his friends, his family.  That's why I don't understand why he's gone," said Peterson.

Peterson was also an aspiring rapper.  After the vigil ended, his friends stuck around, listening to his music blaring from a car stereo.  It's a legacy his 3-year old son, Marieon, will have to remember his father.

"You got to have no heart to just jump in the car and decide to kill somebody for no reason," Peterson told FOX19.

Peterson died at UC Medical Center after being shot.  He also played basketball at Holmes High School.
