Blackwell speaks out to Citizens Police Academy

CINCINNATI, OH (FOX19) -

Cincinnati's new police chief is speaking out to the 26 members of the Citizens Police Academy on Wednesday night.

This is the 58th session of the academy. The academy began in 1955 to offer information on the training police officers receive and the functions they perform.

Participants also have the opportunity to use a firearms simulator to experience the role of a police officer in various scenarios.

"The more educated the citizens are, the easier our job is as police officers," explains Police Chief Blackwell. "Then they understand not only our culture, but why we do the things that we do a certain way."

Blackwell took office in September. He will be on the FOX19 Morning News on Thursday to talk about his plans for the city.
