WAYNESBORO, GA (WFXG) - Plant Vogtle employees manually shut down one of the units Tuesday while work was being performed on a feedwater pump, according to officials with Southern Nuclear.
Unit 2 was shut down at about 11:44 a.m., officials said. There was no radiological release and there were no injuries.
The issue occurred as the unit was returning to full service after an automatic shutdown Saturday due to the loss of excitation from the main generator, officials said. Repairs to the generator are complete.
Once repairs to the feedwater pump are complete, employees will focus on bringing the unit safely back online, officials said.
Unit 1 continues to operate safely at 100 percent power.
