Man killed during workplace accident in Aiken


The Occupational Safety and Health Administration is now looking into the death of Jorge Rodriguez.  It happened at the AGY plant in Aiken.

Officials say Rodriguez was trying to remove some steel i- beams when a channel iron fell and hit him in the head. AGY said they are deeply saddened by the situation and are offering their condolences to the contractor's family.

The company says they are offering assistance to company employees who may be affected by the situation.


A man employed by BK Construction was killed during an accident on the job Monday.

Jorge Rodriguez, 35, of Mexico, was trying to move steel beams at the AGY Plant in Aiken when a 30 foot piece of iron fell 7 feet and hit Rodriguez on the head, according to the Aiken County Coroner's Office.

His autopsy is scheduled for Tuesday morning.

The Aiken County Coroner's Office is investigating the workplace accident.

Aiken, SC -- Officials say employees are evacuating the GlaxoSmithKline plant after a methane leak this morning.

They say they do have the leak contained to one section of the plant. The GlaxoSmithKline plant is on Windham Blvd, next to the airport.

Three departments are in a staging phase. Officials say they have to check all sewer lines in the area to see if the methane has gotten into them.
