PHOENIX (CBS5) -
Phoenix firefighters had to not only battle flames, but live ammunition burning inside a home Friday afternoon.
A Phoenix fire spokesman said the fire at 2:47 p.m. had fully engulfed the home near 36th Street and McDowell Road by the time firefighters arrived.
A mother and two sons, ages 6 and 10, were home at the time, and the father was at work when the fire broke out, the spokesman said.
The mother was in the shower when the boys said they heard a loud noise from the back porch. The mother found flames on the back porch and in the yard, and all were able to get out safely and call 911, the spokesman said.
The Phoenix Fire Department was assisting the family in finding new housing.
Energized electrical lines were down in the yard, and the ammunition posed an additional risk inside the burning home.
Firefighters cut several holes in the roof to contain the blaze and increase visibility for firefighters inside the home.
The cause of the fire hadn't been determined and the investigation was continuing, the spokesman said.
No other information was immediately available.
