SCOTTSDALE, AZ (CBS5) -

Scottsdale police officers needed a gun and a Taser to capture a bank robbery suspect Thursday afternoon.

A Scottsdale Police Department spokesman said Michael Verbsky, 51, told a teller he was robbing the Compass Bank at 7315 E. Osborn Rd. just after 2 p.m.

The suspect then ran south from the bank with an undisclosed amount of cash, the spokesman said.

Officers in the area spotted Verbsky in front of a Courtyard Marriott at 3311 N. Scottsdale Rd. and told him to surrender.

The spokesman said Verbsky reached behind his back with one hand and one of two responding officers fired his handgun, missing the suspect, while another officer fired his Taser.

Verbsky was taken to a Scottsdale hospital with minor injuries.

No weapon was found on Verbsky, but he did have the cash from the robbery, the spokesman said.

No officers or bank employees were hurt.

The incident kept northbound Scottsdale Road in the area closed through rush hour. All northbound traffic was rerouted onto Drinkwater Boulevard.
