Local law enforcement conducts domestic violence sweep

(Toledo News Now) -

Domestic violence in the area had law enforcement agencies working together Wednesday night to catch suspects in the 16th annual domestic violence sweep.

The Lucas County Sheriff's Office and several other agencies hit the streets. Each group of officers had a set of suspects to go after. All the suspects had felony offenses or warrants for their arrest.

Officers had a list of names and addresses, but the addresses given by suspects weren't always real, or the suspects were sometimes long gone, so police spoke to neighbors and residents of the addresses listed to gather information. They still had a strong number of arrests: between 40 and 45.

"We're trying to bring violent people that are escaping justice into the court," explained Sgt. Michael Shrewsberry from the Lucas County Sheriff's Office. "We're trying to protect the families, the victims and the citizens…We want to catch these people and we want to bring them to justice."

Shrewsberry says they weren't only after people charged with domestic violence, though.

"We're talking about crimes of violence," he said. "Anything from assaults, domestic violence, robberies and burglaries, any type of felonies, any type of violent crime."
