State Labor Commissioner Mark Butler and Major General Jim Butterworth, Adjutant General of the Georgia National Guard, kicked off the Paychecks For Patriots career expos today at the Clay National Guard Headquarters in Marietta.
The expos are being held in Augusta and four other cities tomorrow, Oct. 17.
The Augusta event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Fort Gordon at the U.S. Army Reserve, 15th Street and Lane Avenue.
Paychecks For Patriots is an initiative to help put veterans to work throughout Georgia. This will be the first time an initiative like this has been done in Georgia to address the special employment needs and challenges for veterans.
The Georgia Department of Labor is teaming up with the Tennessee Department of Labor, the Georgia National Guard, the Technology Association of Georgia, the U.S. Department of Commerce's Economic Development Administration, the Georgia Vocational Rehabilitation Agency, and corporate host Dollar General to sponsor the expos.
Dollar General is the lead corporate sponsor for Paychecks for Patriots in both Georgia and Tennessee. The company is working to bring national corporations to the expos to help make the connection with veterans. Local businesses are also being recruited to participate by GDOL staff.
