Earthquake drill scheduled for Thursday

AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) -

The National Weather Service will hold an earthquake drill for southeastern states Thursday.

National Weather Service offices around the southeast will be issuing a tone alert for the weather radios using the "required weekly test" with a drill message at 10:17 a.m.

Newer-model NOAA Alert Radios, such as the Midland 100, will not sound the test alert because these models are not programmed to sound an audible alert when weekly tests are conducted, officials said. All other models will sound the tone alert.

Officials also ask people to review these earthquake safety tips as part of this test.
