A 31-year-old man is facing charges after Columbia County deputies say he ran into a vehicle on I-20 Sunday and caused it to overturn, injuring the two people inside.
Deputies say Mustafa Aquil of Jackson, Ga. was driving a dark-colored minivan recklessly on I-20 eastbound around 1 a.m.
They spotted the minivan on I-20 at Belair Road, according to the sheriff's department. Deputies tried to catch up, and as they approached mile marker 195, they saw another vehicle overturn several times.
Deputies say Aquil struck the rear of a trailer being towed by the other vehicle, causing it to overturn.
The driver of the other vehicle, Timothy Moore, 59, and his 15-year-old daughter Rachel Moore were transported to Georgia Regents University. The wreck temporarily shut down all lanes of I-20 eastbound.
Moore and his daughter are in critical but stable condition.
Aquil is charged with two counts of serious injury by vehicle, driving too fast for conditions, following too close, hit and run, reckless driving and driving with a suspended license.
