AUGUSTA, GA (WFXG) - A 33-year-old man is in jail after deputies say he threw marijuana out of his car window Monday while leading them on a high-speed chase.
George Rodney Reid is facing multiple charges, including possession of marijuana with intent to distribute and fleeing from deputies.
Deputies say they saw a man driving a silver GMC Yukon without a seatbelt at about 2 p.m. Deputies tried to stop the SUV at the Mercedes-Benz dealership on Washington Road, but it took off.
The driver, who deputies later identified as Reid, led deputies on a chase through the area, including down Washington Road, Furys Ferry Road, River Watch Parkway, Claussen Road and Stevens Creek Road.
Deputies say they saw Reid dumping bags of marijuana out the window of his SUV during the chase.
The chase ended on Stevens Creek Road. When deputies searched Reid's SUV, they found marijuana and arrested him.
The K-9 unit was called to the area to search for the marijuana along the roads.
Reid is also charged with driving on the wrong side of the roadway, reckless driving, driving too fast for conditions, no insurance coverage and no passing zones.
